Liberal Party of Canada » Liberals speak out in support of net neutrality
    \x0a \x0a \x0a
    \x0a

One of the many reasons I like the Liberal Party of Canada.

    \x0a
OTTAWA - The Liberal Party announced its support for the principle of net neutrality in the House of Commons yesterday.
    \x0a
“The issue of net neutrality is a global one,” said Mr. Garneau. “Internet management should be neutral and not be permitted for anti-competitive behaviour nor should it target certain websites, users, providers or legitimate software applications. We must protect the openness and freedom of the internet, and maintain competition to spur innovation, improve service levels and reduce costs to users.”

  3. \x0a Newsvine - Windows 7 confirmed for holiday season PCs\x0a \x0a \x0a
    \x0a

October 22nd seems to be the date Microsoft has chosen to launch its newest operating system, Windows 7. I’m not entirely sure what to expect of it, after the whole Vista debacle — it looks similar to Vista, it seems to build upon the underlying Vista code, performs many functions like Vista (but, of course, adds more functions and features), and overall feels to me like Vista version 2.

    \x0a

But, maybe I’m wrong. One thing’s for sure, though: we’ll be finding out just how well it handles this October.

  5. \x0a About the Mac OS X 10.5.7 Update\x0a \x0a \x0a
\x0a Apple releases the anticipated 10.5.7 update. It’s mostly a security/compatibility improvement update, so I’d definitely recommend using Software Update and grabbing this. Nothing wrong with a more stable OS!\x0a

An interesting article by Stephen P. Anderson, going over how people, by nature, find aesthetically pleasing interfaces to work better. At least in a psychological sense.

    \x0a

He also delves into the concept of how aesthetics affect cognition. It’s a really interesting point that many people might not have otherwise considered.

  11. \x0a Newsvine - Pentagon spends $100 million to fix cyber attacks\x0a \x0a \x0a
    \x0a

The Pentagon is trying to ramp up its cyber flexibility by pumping funding into their computer networks — particularly for proactive work, rather than reactionary work.

    \x0a

Always better to build the fort before the attack than afterward, after all.

    \x0a

Farhad Manjoo takes folks to task about the recent Facebook redesign. His message: Stop whining, you’ll get over it.

    \x0a

It’s an interesting article, made all the more entertaining due to the fact that Farhad also dislikes the new design. I also have some gripes, like how Facebook is trying too hard to be like Twitter, but in the end most of the complaints are coming from people that just don’t like seeing their most-used site changed in any form.

\x0a An interesting opinion piece by Wolfgang Gruener regarding IE 8’s relatively dismal first weekend after launching. For a corporate giant like Microsoft, you would think that its product would gain a higher share of the market than it did during that period of time.\x0a
